Cosley Zoo

Heather Christophe, Lead Zookeeper & Animal Welfare Coordinator

January, 2026

Through her years of experience with behavioral research and animal wellbeing, Adrienne, from Wildlife Advocacy Group, is a valuable resource for small zoos like ours. Though our staff have experience in animal behavior observation, time and training can make it difficult to reach all our research goals. Adrienne helped us develop a scientific assessment of animal behavior and create an action plan for the animal care staff to work from. It was exciting to have her fresh perspective and expertise.

Wildlife Advocacy Group opened our eyes to how science can improve animal welfare. Most of the kids had previously visited the Lincoln Park Zoo, but our guide Adrienne, made the zoo new. She called our attention to things we hadn’t considered. The tour offered intimate knowledge of animal behaviors and illuminated an important role that zoos play in understanding and supporting not only the animal residents of the zoo, but also the urban wildlife that surrounds us. The presentations were engaging, and thought-provoking. Wildlife Advocacy Group also provided a lot of support leading into the tour. Preparations were excellent, including a scavenger hunt, related literature, and links to resources for further research. The kids learned a lot and had a lot of fun. We look forward to another Wildlife Advocacy Group tour in another setting and learning more about our urban wildlife! June, 2024
